Primary and secondary

Sources:
sources are vital to all news stories. Without research journalists have no stories- and can leave themselves open to legal action.
Usually, journalism will wait for information to be confirmed by two sources- unless that source is a witness or an authoritative provider of quantitative data (like the government).

Definers as a source

Primary definers

Individual who have power, expert or academic knowledge and/ or control whom news institutions use as a source of information to support an argument. Used to add value to a point of view.

Secondary definers

Individuals, often the public, who provide opinions. Public opinion is often quote in articles aimed at a mass audience in order to convey a populist point of view. Gathered on social media or online forums.

Story: Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendes are back together 

This weekend the annual Coachella music festival took place in California. (WHERE)  The festival was host to many great music artists including, Black Pink, Bad Bunny, Charli XCX, and more. Thousands of people attended the 3-day music festival this weekend (WHEN) enjoying the live music and other entertainment.

This infamous festival is attended by many famous celebrities too, this is where Camilla and Shawn (WHO) were spotted by paparazzi (HOW) looking very comfortable together. When paparazzi approached the supposed ex's and asked the burning question we all had 'Are you and Shawn back together?' we could all begin to celebrate as Camilla quickly responded 'Yes!'. The happy couple were later seen dancing and cuddling happily together throughout the festival and all 'Shamilla' shippers could rest easy that night. (WHAT)

The celebrity couple first got together back in 2019 after a close-rooted friendship beginning in 2014. The two were asked often about their relationship or potential for one before they made it official, fans could see the chemistry they had before they even knew it. Eventually, the couple confirmed their relationship in 2019 after dropping the hit single 'Senorita' together and were later spotted looking like they were no longer friends but Hollywood's cutest couple instead. The relationship lasted for a little over 2 years until the pair decided to call it quits which was announced via Instagram in 2021.
